Who are we?

We are both people who love photography.  We enjoy learning and advancing our photography skills for our hobby and passion.

Why are we doing this project?

If you are visiting this site there is a good chance that you have recently purchased an entry level or semi-professional digital camera and are wanting to learn how to get more from your investment.  We all have started in that position of wondering how to get started and take better pictures.  We want to make it easy for you to start improving your photography and comfort with your camera on day 1.  This site is designed with the intent of being a simple guide to making immediate changes to improve your photography.

Making Better Photography Easy

Here you are on the cusp of starting your new photography career/hobby and you just cannot contain the excitement.  You just went out and purchased your first DSLR camera and are finally ready to take your photos to the next level with a gajillion megapixels of sheer, creative genius at your fingertips. You get everything out of the box, charge up the battery, read the quick intro in the user’s manual, set the mode dial to Auto and head out the door.

You spend all day shooting everything you can, hitting that shutter release like wildfire and quickly max out a couple of memory cards. Brimming with excitement, you rush back home, download everything into the computer and sit back to enjoy the razzle and dazzle of the days shoots.  You start viewing and the first 20 disappointing photos go by in a flash. This is about when the depression begins to mount. The next 20 go by and the depression creeps towards self-loathing. Finally, by the time the next 20 go by, the only feeling you have left is anger and you find yourself cursing this new fancy, shmancy DSLR camera wondering “How can something this expensive take such crappy photos?”

Inevitably , most of us have had some sort of experience similar to this along our arduous journey to become a photographer.  Well, don’t worry and take a deep breath. We, the Shutterhogs are here to demystify this experience and help you the amateur learn the ins and outs of photography.  Prepare for an exciting pilgrimage through the creative and technical aspects of the field with the overall goal of making better photography easy.
